Kelly McGillis Says She's Gay on SheWired's 'Girl Rock'
by Boo Jarchow | Article Date: 04/30/2009 6:30 AM
Fifty-one-year young Kelly McGillis is starting her "life in a whole different phase," she told rocker and SheWired vlogger Jennifer Corday -- ostensibly coming out as a lesbian.
Corday, in her Girl Rock video blog, asks the Top Gun and The Accused star, that since she is single, is she looking for a man or woman, or both?
In no uncertain terms McGillis responded that what she is looking for is "definitely a woman." McGillis, a long-rumored lesbian who starred on The L Word as a closeted Army Colonel trying a Don't Ask Don't Tell case added that she is "done with the man thing." She said she is "done with that, and needs to move on in life, and that's another part of being true to yourself." It has been a challenge personally for her, she added.
McGillis said that realizing her sexuality has been an ongoing process for her since she was 12 years old, but through her life faced getting over being convinced that God was punishing her for being gay.
Corday told McGillis that it's much easier to become spiritual now and people realize that "God is okay with you being gay."
McGillis added that "life is a freaking journey, and it's about growing and changing, and coming to terms with who and what you are, and loving who and what you are."
Watch the interview below. McGillis and Corday touch on being gay at about the seven-minute mark.
I have always liked kelly McGillis.. of
course for the movie Top Gun, but she seems
so down to earth and loyal. I am glad her
life journey has made her comfortable enough
to some out and be who she is.. we need more
positive role models in our community and I
am glad she is on our side!
How awesome of her to come out in Hollywood,
esp at her age (considering the agism/taboo
coming out can bring to an actress.) Now all
we need to do to complete this story is find
her a female fighter pilot to fall in
deep-deep love with.

I remember the first time I saw her in Top
Gun. I thought, "Dam, I wish she was Gay."
Dreams do come true. Hey Kelly - if you are
ever in Austin, Texas, I will take your
breath away! Stephanie
Kelly McGillis, Good for her. This couldn't
have been easy for her after all these years.
It's good to know that people can now come
out and be supported.
This old news but glad to hear it-did you
ever see/play thr Top Gun video slot
machine-spinning Kelly + "Charlie" bonus.
Kelly-hope you got compensated for use of
your image.(The machine was at Vally View
Casino in North Sand Diego county, game
platform replaced by Wizard of Oz for you
gamblems out there) Kelly-are you looking in
SCAL or PA?
Kelly has been gracious in sparing any more
men having to share her closet. It is shame
that it took her 39 years. I just hope that
the onset gay marriages and a more gay
friendly environment willobviate the need for
gay and lesbian people to hide their
sexuality under the bushel of a straight
marriage.
It is a deceitful way to live and
causes untold pain to the real victims of
this deception.
I am sure Kelly's ex
husbands have now found the answers to to
some big questions.
Always thought she was a lesbian. Good on her
for coming out. Living a lie no matter how
well intended only hurts the individual in
the long run. More of my thoughts on this at

Kelly, You are one of the persons that helped
me to realize I am a lesbian. I rember
watching you on the big screen at age 11
thinking to myself, "wow she's gorgeous!" I
finally understood what I was 'really'
feeling 11 years and one husband later. Today
I'm still trying to figure out what it means
to be a lesbian, keep on growing...

Kelly McGillis and God's guidance
Hi... I commend Kelly McGillis on her coming
out and being free about her sexuality. I was
gay myself and know the struggle of it all. I
know God's insight on homosexuality and Mc
Gillis is confused when she says that God
will guider her life as a Lesbian. That is so
wrong because God does not condone
homosexuality.. He may love all of mankind
and the sinner but no way is He going to
continue blessing your life when you are
sinning. I am living proof of this so Kelly
Mc Gillis needs to refrain from declaring
that God is going to be ok with her
lifestyle. I had to change because God was
not going to be cool with a homosexual
lifestyle.
