Ellen DeGeneres' Interview with Katie Couric on Marriage, Babies and 'American Idol'

Ellen DeGeneres recently sat down with CBS Evening News Anchor Katie Couric and discussed everything from same-sex marriage to coming out to being the new American Idol judge.

DeGeneres spoke about the journey from coming out lesbian on the cover of Time magazine to having her own show. She points out that even if viewers accept her for being gay, they may have a harder time dealing with homosexuality within their own family.

"I think there are a lot of people who are probably fans of the show, but if their kid came home and said ['I'm gay'] they'd ... It's baby steps, you know," DeGeneres said.

With her ongoing battle for compassion and acceptance, the comedian points out that you cannot fight intolerance with intolerance.

"Let's take, for example, someone who is antigay - someone who despises homosexuals ... who I am. I have to remind myself, if I hate that person, if I judge that person, I'm the same as them," DeGeneres told Couric.

The talk show host also spoke openly about her relationship with wife Portia de Rossi and whether or not they will start a family saying that it is her healthy marriage that keeps her happy.

DeGeneres says she and the Better Off Ted star, 37, are so "fully in love with each other" that they don't feel the need for children.

.
Both Portia and Ellen have said a million
times that they do not want brats yet they
continue to be asked about it by idiots in
the media. Constantly. If they were two men
they wouldn't continue to get harassed about
this.

I agree with both of them.
I think acceptance is being influenced by
media exposure to the masses and, saddly I
must say, through the dying off of our
elderly bigots. We, unfortunately have some
strongholds still out there, but there is
hope yet.
