Conservative 'Idol': Gay Icon Adam Lambert Loses to Kris Allen

America's 'glam' gay icon Adam Lambert, a shoo-in for the American Idol title, lost to the underdog Kris Allen in the show's finale Wednesday.

Idol pundits have speculated that Lambert's often David Bowie crossed with Freddie Mercury style may have alienated voters in conservative states, including in the south. Allen hails from Arkansas.

Meanwhile Lambert's online persona since Idol began has included pics of him kissing other men.

While Lambert's popularity often appeared unchallenged this season, with Idol contestant Danny Gokey gone, it appears his votes may have gone to Allen.

For the final showdown Tuesday Lambert sang his season showstopper, Tears for Fears' "Mad World," plus he belted Sam Cooke's "Change Gonna Come" and a new song that Idol judge Kara DioGuardi helped to pen.

While neither contestant appeared to score a hands-down win following Tuesday's performance, voters chose Allen and his renditions of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine, Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin' On," and his spin on DioGuardi's tune.

In the end, the country went for the clean and scrubbed Allen opposed to wild man Lambert!

Adam Lambert can overcome bigotry
Unfortunately, the mantra for Season 8 is:
Many people did not vote for Kris Allen to
win American Idol, people voted for Adam
Lambert to lose American Idol because he was
"different." Adam Lambert was fully exploited
by American Idol to gain ratings for his
performances only to have an ALL-AMERICAN
wholesome boy win the idol title. This was a
gross exploitation of Adam Lambert by
American Idol to boost viewership, all the
build-up and pimping were all for charity to
him-- only to have AMERICA choose a mediocre
all-American wholesome Christian boy to win
idol.

screw idol
I am in shock. How could Kris beat Adam? He
didn't deserve to win, and in a year or two
people wont even remember the name Kris
Allen.

get over lambert
I dont know what all you people are talking
about when you say he is so amazing. I dont
think i would be caught dead buying his CD.
His voice pierces my ears and causes my dog
to bark. He belongs on broadway no where
else. To say Kris Allen will be a nobody is
just crazy. Do you know who Jason Mraz is or
Michael Buble... he even showed up Keith
Urban tonight. Some people need to get a
life and over American Idol. I think its
funny how you guys cause so much over so
little.

kris was better vocalist
who cares if Adam wants to rub his wee wee on
another dude...Kris was the better vocalist
appealing to a wider audience...the only
bigotry I have read here is the hate towards
Kris because he isn't gay

why is someone who doesn't *agree* with homosexuality a bigot?
Is a homosexual, who by definition, doesn't
agree with heterosexuality a bigot as well?
Is someone who doesn't agree with murder a
bigot? People should be allowed to choose
what they believe is right or wrong without
being called a bigot. People who didn't vote
for Lambert probably didn't do it because
they hate him but because they don't agree
with his beliefs. That is not a bigot. People
are allowed to have their own beliefs.
What does it say for those people who want
tolerance for everyone but call people names
who don't agree with their specific beliefs?
That is not practicing what you preach.
Homosexuals and the people who support them
denigrate heterosexuals, which just hurts
their argument for tolerance of all views. I
guess the tolerance is only supposed to be
one way in order to be "fair".

Too much noise
I think straight/gay need to get a life
altogether. I can't even believe I am
actually taking the time to write this
because it's so silly.
To think that there
is no politics involved in producing a show
like Idol is insane. Of course Adam was
exploited, of course Kris was the evident
winner and of course we all know that the
better singer, the more charismatic
contestant who truly deserved to win based on
talent and showmanship was Adam (and that has
nothing to do with the fact that he is gay).
Kris even mentioned it before saying thank
you to America. In the end who really cares,
I agree that Kris Allen will probably fade in
the minds of most of us just like the rest of
the Idol winners with the exception of Kelly
Clarkson and Carrie Underwood - seriously
whatever happened to the other ones crowned
winners? And most importantly what were their
names?

Known pattern
It is a known pattern that people vote for
people on the show who have a Christian
background. A person's background is part of
their overall image and many people do not
agree on homosexuality and count that against
them. Those people are free to behave
whatever way they choose but that doesn't
mean others have to accept them. The fact
that Kris won just proves that freedom of
choice exists. And it is those people who
stick to their values, like Miss California
did, who are ridiculed unfairly. Again,
tolerance only seems to flow one way. Yes,
you can be homosexual but that doesn't mean
I'm forced to like it. I tolerate, but don't
agree with, your choice so you should be
tolerating mine even if you don't agree with
my choice.

Glitch...
lol ... especially at "...that doesn't mean
I'm forced to like it."

Dude--you signed
up for an account AND posted several comments
on a LESBIAN-ORIENTED site! lol (Evidently
the "forcing you to like it" worked.)

exactly how does....
commenting on any website with certain
viewpoints imply that I agree with those
viewpoints? You are drawing incorrect
conclusions using some made up logic. I
wouldn't consider 2 (and now 3) comments to
be several either. I'm as much against
homosexuality now as I was yesterday. I only
signed up for an account to post. That does
not mean I now spend hours and hours on this
site. If I could have set people straight
regarding the bigotry they seem to project
onto others who don't agree with their
homosexual tendencies, without creating an
account, then I would have done so.

Glitch get a grip!
Glitch, yes it means you spend hours on this
site...you just did!
Surely your 3 posts
must have taken you about an hour altogether
to write. Yes you are free to be homophobic
but why then visit a gay site?
If I don't
like something I don't indulge in it. Either
you're a masochist or quite possibly simply
in the closet!

Whatever
Anyone who truly believes that any of these
shows are nothing but fixed must also believe
that the WWE wrestling is real. If you look
at the history of this show it is obvious.

BTW...
SheWired is not a "website with certain
viewpoints."

This is a
lesbian/bi/queer/questioning/gay-friendly
news and entertainment website and social
forum for women, smart guy. Go to CBN.com if
you're looking for a website with "certain
viewpoints."

not agreeing with homosexual is not the same as being afraid of them
hey spicy, I think you need to read a
dictionary sometime. Just because I don't
agree with the homosexual lifestyle doesn't
mean I'm afraid of them which is what
homophobic means. And if you must make that
illogical relationship I assume you would
apply the same incorrect logic to homosexuals
who don't agree with the heterosexual
lifestyle by calling them heterophobic,
otherwise we have yet another double standard
of name calling by the homosexuals.

I
also didn't just spend hours on this site.
You can't even tell how long I spend on this
site. I refresh the page and make a post if I
see someone responded to my post. That takes
only a few minutes assuming I have to make a
post, otherwise 5 seconds to refresh the
page. That doesn't equate to "hours". It
doesn't take much to defend against the
easily defeated arguments provided by the
homosexuals to further their cause. For
example, "accept me and my lifestyle or i'll
call you a homophobe even though I wouldn't
be applying that term correctly" or "accept
me even though I don't accept your
heterosexual lifestyle because I prefer
double standards so long as they are in my
favor" or "accept me or i'll denigrate you
even though it is your choice to not accept
me just like it was my choice to be a homo".
