California Supreme Court To Announce Prop 8 Decision Tuesday

The California Supreme Court will announce whether or not to uphold Proposition 8, the ballot measure voted on in November banning same-sex marriage, on Tuesday. Oral arguments for the case were heard on March 5th, and the court had 90 days to rule. The court gives a 24 hour notice of decision announcements, made on weekdays, but due to Memorial Day on Monday, the decision will be released Tuesday, May 26th. 

Activists fighting for marriage equality have been planning events the night of the decision in reaction to both the court upholding Prop 8 or a ruling invalidating the gay marriage ban. Marches are scheduled in cities throughout the state. In Los Angeles, there are two marches planned - one at noon in East Los Angeles, and the other beginning at 7:00 pm in West Hollywood. 

Many organizations have set up Twitter accounts, Facebook pages, email blast lists, and even text message alerts, to notify those who signed up when the decision is expected, what the decision is, and what time and location is set up for the various rallies.

On the Saturday after the decision announcement, grassroots organizers have planned Meet In The Middle, a rally in Fresno, a county that voted yes on Prop 8. One goal of the organizers of the event is to show support for equality in areas that are not supportive of equal rights for the LGBT community.
