Catholic School Officials Boot Child with Lesbian Parents

A preschool student at a Catholic school in Boulder, Colo., will not be allowed to return next year because the child's parents are lesbians living together, reports the Advocate.
The Denver Archdiocese claims the parents' relationship violates the school's beliefs and policy.
According to 9 News, a meeting was held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School on Tuesday to discuss the "violation." The staff was told the child would not be allowed to re-enroll because of his or her parents' sexual orientation. The staff members were also told not to talk to the media.
The archdiocese said in a statement: "Homosexual couples living together as a couple are in disaccord with Catholic teaching."
"No person shall be admitted as a student in any Catholic school unless that person and his/her parent(s) subscribe to the school's philosophy and agree to abide by the educational policies and regulations of the school and Archdiocese," the statement continued.
"Parents living in open discord with Catholic teaching in areas of faith and morals unfortunately choose by their actions to disqualify their children from enrollment," said the archdiocese.
Legal experts told 9 News that the action by the archdiocese is legal because it is "school policy." However, staff members for the school say they are "disgusted."
This is a private religious institution, they
get to set the standards for enrollment. And
I think they should get some respect for at
least trying to stay true to their teachings.
I am not Catholic and do not believe as they
do, but I do believe they have every right to
set their standards. Do I think it's a bit
hypocritical that there are probably other
parents that violate the church teachings
that have children attending, yes. We cannot
eat our cake and have it too. If we want the
church to stay out of our business [politics
specifically) then we have to stay out of
their business [religion). And if the parents
in this case knew the school policy and tried
to violate it anyway, well, what were they
thinking?
Okay after 12 years of Catholic schooling, I
realized I was a lesbian..like so many of us!
Now..I understand where the school is
coming from, they absolutely have the right
to not allow children of gay parents to go to
school there[I'm just surprised they'd
sacrifice the tuition dollars!!)
HOWEVER,
this has to be a universal standard! The
school says if they allow a child with gay
parents whose lifestyle is in direct discord
with Catholic teaching, attend that school,
and then teach the child homosexuality is
wrong, it creates a confusing and
uncomfortable situation for the child.
Let's find out how many children in this
school [or any catholic schools for that
matter!), have divorced parents. Parents who
used alternative methods to create their
children [IVF, surrogacy, sperm donors, etc).
Single mothers, cheating spouses, gluttons,
parents who have ever masturbated! The list
goes on and on.
This is a worse situation
by singling out one child with "imperfect"
parents in the eyes of the Catholic Church.
From a quasi-Catholic lesbian..this is just
prejudiced unless a universal standard is set
across the board for all Catholic schools.
P.S The Pope's brother is being investigated
for sexually abusing choir boys in the 60s in
Germany...so let's calm down with the
hypocrisy.
