Broadway Diva Idina Menzel Joins Cast of 'Glee'

Just as Glee is about to go on vacation until April comes this gem of a casting: Broadway diva Idina Menzel has been cast as the vocal coach.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Menzel could appear in the remaining nine episodes, slated to resume after Wednesday's fall finale.

Menzel, who famously played lesbian Maureen on the Broadway and big-screen incarnations of Rent and Elphaba in Broadway's Wicked, has said that she's a big fan of the Fox freshman show.

Earlier this season when Rachel (Lea Michele) and Kurt (Chris Colfer) dueled to see who would sing Menzel Wicked's "Defying Gravity," the singer-actress jumped into the fray via Twitter with a contest built around the song.

Fans of the show have been clamoring to see Menzel guest star on the musical dramedy — as Rachel's diva mother. Wednesday's casting has her set to play a vocal coach for Vocal Adrenaline, the main competition to McKinley High's glee club.

Menzel is the second Wicked star to join Glee: Kristin Chenoweth (Glinda) guest starred earlier this season as a former McKinley alumni and member of the glee club.
