'Playboy Club' Creator Hopes the Show Finds a Home on Bravo

As far as LGBT inclusion goes NBC’s swiftly canceled The Playboy Club was heads and bunny tails above pretty much all of the television season’s new shows what with a lesbian and gay storyline that included the historical Mattachine Society.

But the drama, starring out actress Amber Heard, got the ax after just three episodes as the retro show about Playboy Bunnies in 1960’s Chicago failed to secure an audience. Now, the show’s creator Chad Hodge tells Out that he wished he taken the show to Bravo, a network that has a solid fan base of women and gay men.

“I think NBC gave up too soon,” Hodge said. “Had NBC stuck with the show I think many more millions would have eventually shown up. Those who found the show realized it wasn’t what they expected—it was good. It was entertaining, sophisticated, and dazzling. It dealt with social mores and moral ethics. And it was an intentional guilty pleasure.”

But Hodge says he hasn’t given up hope that the show could get picked up by another network. “For weeks now, I’ve been saying we should move over to Bravo. This is a fun, sexy, soapy show, and our core audience is women and gay men. No brainer for them. Bravo has wanted to get into scripted programming for years now. I’d love them to pick up the show. If one million people watched our show on Bravo—a quarter of our NBC audience—it would be a runaway hit.”

He also said that he doesn’t think NBC’s yanking the show is indicative of any sort of move away from lesbian and gay characters in Primetime. We were never criticized for the gay characters, actors, or plots,” he told Out. “In fact NBC encouraged us to make the gay storyline even bigger because it was working so well.”

Here’s to The Playboy Club getting picked up by another network so that we can see how lesbian Bunny Alice’s (Leah Renee) story plays out!

this show was pretty good and there was plenty room for interesting story lines. Plus it was not to shaby to look at either. I hope someone picks it up.

The Playboy Club is the next BIG thing!

The Playboy Club is this best show by far in a long time. I couldnt believe it got cancelled I cryed and cryed and freaked out because it was my all time favorite I was yalls number one fan. I agree to put the show on bravo theres alot more understanding viewers on NBC was nothing but old folks that are judgementale waiting for the 10 oclock news to come on. Once the show finds a network its going to rock the charts all the show needs is someone to give it a chance and put NBC to shame. Trust me NBC will have regret. Expeclly now that it got cancelled its going to triple the viewers because everybodys going to want to see what the big fuss is about and them viewers will be opened minded and fall head over hills in love with the playboy club. If I had my own Tv network I would pay for The Playboy Club to be on my network. I would fill honored to repercent the show. I LOVE IT. I know it will pull out of this and when yall do yall are going to rock the charts and im going to love it.

I am so disappointed that the network cancelled this show. It was one of the most exciting series of the new line up. I hope that Bravo network picks it up because after just three episodes, it was not given a fair chance. I was looking forward to Monday nights to tune in to this show.

It was a very enjoyable clean show. I don't see why all the uproar over the show. If it had been the same show under a different title there would have been no fuzz. Well I just hope Mr. Hodge finds a openminded network looking for the next big hit...

I really enjoyed the show me

I really enjoyed the show me and my girlfriend would Watch it ever Monday night I mean it was a bad idea to put it on the same night as mnf but it was a great show very suspensful and unpredictable. I really hope it gets picked up by another cable channel or even hbo it's has great potential to be a huge show with the right advertisement. I was telling everyone about it I had a couple people catch up ondemand And where very exciting for the next week witch never came so please someone air this show again I miss it.

Me and my husband both were really into the show, PLEASE BRING BACK THE PLAYBOY CLUB ON BRAVO. Also, I think NBC did a VERY POOR job of advirtising the show because I never saw a commercial for it until the night before the Pilot episode. I think this show is WAY BETTER than all that Reality TV BS!! I don't think the problem with the viewers was the show... It was the advertisement. NBC messed up marketing that wrong and cancelled it too quick and now are going to miss out on a potentially great show. Women were afraid and men were not interested. The show was one of my favorites ever. I love the story and really felt for the characters. The sexual tension was great. I genuinely feared that Bruno would be found. This was a bad choice to cancel! I really hope some channel picks it up!!

So last night I watched the first three episodes on demand and got hooked... I came online today to find out what night/time it was on only to find it was canceled. I really hope this gets picked up. It seems like canceling after 3 episodes isn't really giving it a shot. I just told everyone about it on facebook and others were going to check it out... they should have given it time for word to spread. :-( Come on BRAVO, pick up this show. Its a great opportunity. Obviously people are upset it has been canceled. Much better than reality TV!

loved playboy club

I loved this show. I think the problem for NBC was it was in the time slot opposite DWTS and MNF. That was a horrable decision by NBC but the show itself is great. Please pick this show up Bravo or any other network.

FIND A CHANNEL SOMEWHERE,PLEASE!

I thought the show was great!! The first episode was just OK but as time went on I was hooked. I wish I could look at the script for the 13 episodes. I was devestated and angry when I found out the news. How are we now going to know the answers to many questions we all have of the show? I suppose you can't blame NBC as they are a business and the audience was dwindling. More importantly why was the audience not interested? The audience seems to like totally mindless reality shows, one that comes to mind, the kardashian's. You don't need much brain power for that one. Also some of the other reasons given are from feminist's groups and holy rollers claiming the outfits are degrading and border pornography. I wonder what these folks must say of bikini clad women at the beach? The outfits are no different then leotards worn by women of the same era. Some women are so threatened by a nice looking woman! In any event I hope some one of the hundreds of the channels out there will show an interest in this fine series.

It's nice to see so many

It's nice to see so many women that like the show. I thought it might be women who did not like the show, but from the response I guess I am wrong. My wife also enjoyed it. Maybe it's an age thing, and the viewing audience does not want nostalgia or history. I think it could have been a show like Dallas (really dating myself) or like the Soprano's if given the opportunity. Once again I hope a channel picks it up and proves NBC wrong.

The Playboy Club is the BEST Show on TV!

I was so excited that FINALLY we were getting and "ORIGINAL" TV Show! My husband and I just LOVED it! We have way too many crime shows on TV! Plus, some of the remakes popping up! Not interested. The Playboy Club has class, sophistication, and of course sex appeal! A fine cast, and of course the storyline is Amazing! I am so sad "The Playboy Club" has been canceled, it was good and it was getting better each week. It resembled "Mad Men" which is another good show but would not have made it on a major network (it's on AMC). Hopefully another network will pick this up. I think the networks have forgotten about us "BABY BOOMERS" who like the good old fashion t.v. Come on NETWORK EXECUTIVES who make the big bucks, earn your paycheck and make some smarter decisions! Give a show a chance......3 episodes..... really?

I was skeptical of this show

I was skeptical of this show at first-(thought it would be degrading of women)-but I was addicted from the first episode. I love the storyline, costumes, music & the lead actor's dimples are adorable-I couldn't keep my eyes off them whenever he was in a scene! Someone has to keep this show on the air! Please!!! How are we going to know if Bruno's body is ever found? Will his son find out who killed him? Maybe we need to just boycott the major stations-NBC, ABC, CBS & FOX-to get them to realize that not all viewers are content to watch reality television. Please, Bravo, step up to the plate & bring back The Playboy Club for people who have taste & can actually pay attention to something long enough to follow an interesting storyline.

I cannot believe that nbc cancelled a show as good as the playboy club , this sucks. I thought the show was a breath of fresh air for network tv for a change. The show had a timeless elegance about it ,and I agree with the fact that the show was aimed for adults because this younger audience would'nt know class and elegance if it slapped them in the face. I guess I'm showing my age, I appreciate a tv series that actually has a story line. And some people are so narrow minded that they would'nt give it a chance because of its name and some critics thought it was racy. WHATEVER! If they really think thats too racy for network tv then the network might want to rethink the Victorias Secret fashion show. I thought this show was the best and I loved it if you can't tell. SOMEONE PLEASE PICK THIS SHOW UP!!!!!

Very disappointed

I don't usually watch television on Monday evenings because there is usually nothing that interests me. Then The Playboy Club came along. The storyline was amazing and I kept wanting more. I was hooked after just 3 episodes. NBC has made a grave mistake in cancelling this series. This artisitic and entertaining show is one of a kind and definitely one that will make a lasting impression.What is television coming to? If it's not some ridiculous reality show or detective show, the networks don't seem to support much anymore. I'm waiting to hear what network supports the artistic value of this series and picks it up. Come on BRAVO, we are waiting to see if you will take the lead and set the standard for television.

its a shame..

i think too many people are still closed minded when it comes to anything remotely sexual. most people see a show with the name 'playboy' in it and, whither theyre opposed to sexuality or not, will immidiately write it off for having nothing more than what they expect a show with such a title would have.

anyways, im actually a little surprised that they said their main audience was women and gays, but im neitger and i also liked it. i was surprised to find the show tame. it definately wasnt trying to push any boundaries. instead i found the story, script and characters is what brought me back the most.

also, im sure i read that parent and religious groups were pushing for this show to get canned and even responded as being pleased once they got what they wanted, somehow im sure part of the problem they had was the gay storylines.

i really hope the show gets picked up again, though i dont know if i want to see it on bravo since (atleast not where i live) it wouldnt be in hd. that would be better than nothing but such a beautiful new show really ought to be aired in hd these days.

This show brings me back to an era I would have enjoyed

I was really interested in this show and after watching the first three, I am disappointed to find it cancelled. I loved the style, the elegance, the music, the story line, and the music...it's sort of my guilty pleasure to be living in an era like this...to escape the fast paced world today and not to mention all those ridiculous reality shows out there. Bravo would have been a great choice. I was really excited to see NBC playing a different show late at night for adults who want to enjoy something different after the kids have gone to sleep. Bravo, pick it uppp!!!

Loss of a great show...

There was so much going right for this show, what a shame NBC didn't give it a chance. So much style- a lot of that "pizazz" we just don't get from anything else on tv right now. Hopefully Bravo will pick it up. For me it is less about the gay/lesbian story line- but more for the "era" in which it takes place that makes it an interesting show. It was a swanky time in our history that makes for great storytelling...
