The Kids Are All Right to Become HBO Series

Lisa Cholodenko’s The Kids Are All Right is getting the one-hour drama series treatment on HBO, according to Deadline.  The 2010 film starred Julianne Moore and Annette Bening as a lesbian couple whose children (Mia Wasikowska and Josh Hutcherson) go in search of and find their sperm donor (Mark Ruffalo).

Cholodenko, who wrote and directed High Art and Laurel Canyon and co-wrote and directed the Kids Are All Right feature, is slated to pen the pilot for HBO. She’s also an executive producer on the series.

The film garnered plenty of critical attention and Oscar nominations for Bening, Ruffalo and screenwriters Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg but tended to polarize lesbian viewers with its plot that had Moore’s character Jules engaging in fairly wild sex with the sperm donor while the lesbian sex scene was passionless and awkward.

After careful consideration we at SheWired have decided the couple we would most love to see depict the Bening and Moore characters are Jennifer Beals and Mary Louise Parker. Fingers crossed that someone in casting is paying attention!

Open-minded

I think Lisa Cholodenko is an incredibly good writer/filmmaker. I'll watch anything she creates. I look forward to seeing what she does with the HBO series. Honestly, I think that any time the LGBT community gets normalized via television, books, movies--name your medium of choice--it is a good thing.  Susan Gabriel, author of Seeking Sara Summers,(a novel about falling in love with your best friend-avail on nook, ipad, kindle)
