Kelly Clarkson Tweets Support for Ron Paul: Twitter Controversy Ensues Over His Stance On LGBT Rights

The National Organization for Marriage may not like presidential hopeful Ron Paul, but pop singer Kelly Clarkson does — although she’s backtracked a bit after hearing about some of the controversies surrounding him.


Clarkson tweeted Wednesday, “I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last Republican nomination, and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican Party in 2012, he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.”


Clarkson’s followers, however, quickly pointed out antigay and racist passages in newsletters that have gone out under Paul’s name over the years (he has disavowed them), ABC News reports. She said she had never heard that Paul was accused of racism, and she added that she voted Democratic, presumably for President Obama, in 2008, but she considers herself a Republican.


“I am really sorry if I have offended anyone,” she said. “Obviously, that was not my intent. I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women’s rights, men’s rights, white/black/purple/orange rights. I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country. That is all. Out of all of the Republican nominees, he’s my favorite.”

Equal Protection Rights

   The equal protection language of the Constitution guarantees protection to persons regardless of race,religion or national origin. The framers of the Constitution did not have in mind the protection of persons on the basis of so-called sexual orientation or preference. If one's sexual preferences become a protected class under the equal protection clause, there can be no argument that will be sufficiently compelling to prevent the Supreme Court from expanding that class to include those who wish to marry blood relatives or multiple partners.http://www.investors.com/image/toonBW_080510_FULL.gif.cms  -------------Neither women nor homosexuals are promised protection against discrimination under the Constitution, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said in an interview with the publication California Lawyer.Scalia's remarks has spurred criticism from liberals and from some law scholars, though he has expressed this point of view before."You do not need the Constitution to reflect the wishes of the current society," Scalia said. "Certainly the Constitution does not require discrimination on the basis of sex. The only issue is whether it prohibits it. It doesn't. Nobody ever thought that that's what it meant. Nobody ever voted for that. If the current society wants to outlaw discrimination by sex, hey we have things called legislatures, and they enact things called laws."Scalia was specifically referencing the 14th Amendment, which states: "No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."The justice argued that "the Constitution tells the current society that it cannot do [whatever] it wants to do... Now if you give to those many provisions of the Constitution that are necessarily broad--such as due process of law, cruel and unusual punishments, equal protection of the laws--if you give them an evolving meaning so that they have whatever meaning the current society thinks they ought to have, they are no limitation on the current society at all."

Honestly, I don't see the big

Honestly, I don't see the big deal.  He's not my favorite candidate either, but endorsing a candidate is not the equivalent of endorsing every view they do or supposedly have.  I'd rather have a pro-gay Republican supporting Paul than Gingrich or Perry!

Clarkson is against racism

Clarkson is against racism and for gay rights, but supports a man for the office of President of our country who's background is full of associations with individuals who believe in white supremecy and that gays should be executed.  Is she insane?  I am extemely offended by her support of Ron Paul and have just purged my music library of all her music.  I would strongly suggest that all minorities and gays do the same thing.  The only way this simpleton will get a clue is if we hit her in her pocketbook.  Good by Ms. Clarkson.

Kelly Clarkson seems decent, but naive.  She's entitled to her vote, and I'm entitled to mine.
