Dolly Parton Moved to Tears by Jennifer Hudson's Whitney Houston Tribute

Jennifer Hudson paid tribute to Whitney Houston at Sunday’s Grammy Awards singing Houston’s mega-hit “I Will Always Love You,” a performance that moved the song’s writer Dolly Parton to tears, according to The Advocate.

Originally a country tune that Parton had sung for years “I Will Always Love You,” off of 1992’s The Bodyguard soundtrack, became the biggest hit of Houston’s career. Houston died suddenly in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Here’s Parton’s statement regarding Hudson’s tribute and Houston’s death:

“I was brought to tears again last night, as I’m sure many were, when Jennifer Hudson sang ‘I Will Always Love You’ on the Grammys in memory of Whitney. Like everybody else, I am still in shock. But I know that Whitney will live forever in all the great music that she left behind. I will always have a very special piece of her in the song we shared together and had the good fortune to share with the world. Rest in peace, Whitney. Again, we will always love you.”

This is bad

This is borderline between a boy hitting puberty and goat getting castrated

Why Not Dolly?

It would have been far more appropriate to have Dolly Parton sing that tribute than to allow Jennifer Hudson to butcher yet another artist's trademark song. Jennifer Hudson can sing; however, she will never be able to sing like Jennifer Holliday or Whitney Houston, and I wish she'd stop trying.

It's so sad that while most

It's so sad that while most are focusing on an homage to a memory, you are focusing on the negative of a performance. Not that Jennifers tribute needs justification but Whitney actually presented Jennifer with her first Grammy and she thanked Whitney as pretty much the soul inspiration for her career. Don't hate on someone who stepped up at a time when few could have. At the crux of Whitneys music was love, so if you truly are a fan why don't you practice a little of what she preached! Enjoy her gift to you and do it with a little love dude!!!
