'Army Wives' Lesbian Kiss Between Returning Army Captain and her Partner
Taking a cue from the lesbian sailor couple who made history by kissing on the docks in Virginia when one returned from sea, Army Wives newly minted lesbian storyline featured a tender moment and kiss this week when Army Captain Nicole (Kellie Martin) returned home from duty and was greeted by her girlfriend Charlie (Ryan Michelle Bathe) at the army pick-up spot.
The kiss could only have occurred in a post DADT world in which intelligence officer Nicole was free from censure if she kissed her partner in public.
But the road to the kiss had its bumps along the way as Nicole, accustomed to hiding her sexuality, was hesitant to allow her relationship to go public.
Prior to the kiss Charlie struggled with whether or not to join the other families, friends and loved ones greeting their soldiers, but in the end she opted to meet Nicole. They locked eyes and Charlie said, “Don’t be mad.” Nicole surprised her by replying “come here,” and kissing and hugging her in public.
