Last week Portia de Rossi debuted a hot new set of shorn locks, and now, her wife Ellen DeGeneres weighs in on the look on Bethenny Frankel’s talk show Bethenny in an episode that airs June 12.

Ellen, who’s sported cropped hair since around the time of the second season of her sitcom in 1994, says that she thinks Portia’s new look is “adorable,” according to US. She goes on to explain that Portia’s new coiffure was by no means an impetuous decision.

“[Portia] wanted to do it for a long time and grew up modeling, and of course you're supposed to have long hair," Ellen says. "Everyone told her never to cut her hair. I think it just got to be part of her."

Ellen, who’s been married to the former Ally McBeal and Arrested Development star since 2008, tells Bethenny that she’s Portia’s been feeling more “liberated” these days, explaining that Portia, "got a tattoo recently and that opened the door to everything."
