A video of middle school students bullying a bus monitor in upstate New York went viral this week and caught the attention of news outlets and celebrities including Ellen DeGeneres.
The video, which showed 68-year-old Karen Klein being bullied, called names and threatened with violence, inspired viewers to give more than $575,000 (at time of posting) to an IndiGoGo campaign. The campaign was started with a goal of $5,000 to give Karen, who has eight grandchildren, a dream vacation.
Ellen took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the campaign and bullying:
It breaks my heart. I'm so moved by the donations. Bullying doesn't end when you grow up. It ends when we stop bullying say.ly/bGm3ANC
