Stockard Channing to Play Alicia's Mom on 'The Good Wife'
The Good Wife just can’t stop racking up the top-notch talent to appear on its fourth season. This fourth season, which premieres Sept. 30, already features Maura Tierney as the doyenne of Chicago politics, Amanda Peet as a military lawyer and Christina Ricci as a controversial comic. Now, Stockard Channing has signed on to play mom to the show’s lead character Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies), according to Entertainment Weekly.
Channing, a Tony and Emmy winner, was also nominated for an Oscar for her reprising the role she played on stage in Six Degrees of Separation. Channing also made a mark on the small screen playing First Lady Abbey Bartlett on The West Wing. But let’s just be honest and say that most of us love and revere Channing for playing head Pink Lady Betty Rizzo in the big screen version of Grease.
A long-time supporter of the LGBT community Channing also played Judy Shepard in the TV movie The Matthew Shepard Story and opposite Harvey Fierstein in the movie version of his AIDS-themed playTidy Endings back in 1988.
It’ll be a treat to see how Channing plays out as Alicia’s mom and if she’ll get into it with Alicia’s nemesis of a mother-in-law Jackie played by the outstanding Mary Beth Peil.
