A very pregnant Evan Rachel Wood stepped out onto the red carpet at New York's Triceca Film Festival this week to promote her latest flick, a romantic comedy written by and costarring Justin Long, titled A Case of You.
Wood talked with The Daily Beast about the film, in which she again shows off her impressive singing prowess — who else fell hard for her as Lucy in Across The Universe? —about why she loves Twitter, and about what it means to her to be a proud, out, married, pregnant, bisexual woman.
The Daily Beast asked Wood about her outspoken support for marriage equality, and even delved into the actor's coming-out process. Wood, as always, had an eloquent, well-reasoned response.
"I wanted to wait for the right time [to come out as bi]," said Wood. "And wait to have enough years under my belt where people knew that it wasn’t a phase or anything and I wasn’t doing it for attention; this is a part of who I am, and I’m old enough to really know who I am by now. And I had to wait until I told my family, too, which I was really nervous about! And I have a really chill, understanding family, too."
Wood revealed that as a child, she earned her black belt in Taekwondo — a tidbit that was apparently news to her costar Long, who burst into the interview shrieking "What don't you do?!"
Wood wrapped the interview by discussing her cinematic choices, which have always leaned toward the indie, artistic side of things. Wood said she doesn't see anything wrong with doing big-name summer blockbusters, but she prefers to do movies she'd like to watch.
"I did like doing roles that were I guess…I don't want to say extreme, but just not the norm," said Wood. "Because I'm a little weird."
