We mourned with the rest of the blogosphere when news broke that one of our favorite characters on Netflix's highly acclaimed, lesbian-centric prison drama Orange Is The New Black might be getting sprung from jail for the show's upcoming second season. Laura Prepon (That '70s Show) plays sultry former drug dealer Alex Vause, whose previous involvement with protagonist Piper Chapman landed the main character in jail ten years after she carried a suitcase full of drug money across international borders.
Buzzfeed reported earlier this week that Prepon was only scheduled to appear in a few episodes of OITNB's second season, currently shooting. When BuzzFeed published the breaking news on Wednesday, Netflix couldn't be reached for comment.
But today, Netflix offered some reassuring words to Orange fans who were devastated by the possibility that Alex and Piper (Taylor Schilling) might be separated for good, despite their incredible onscreen chemistry, and the major plot point their relationship comprises.
But a Netflix representative issued a statement today saying reports that Prepon was leaving the show are "not accurate."
"Our season is still developing and noting is confirmed," the rep told Yahoo! TV.
So take a deep breath, Piper-Alex shippers. We likely haven't seen the last of this fierce, foxy couple who make beige look sexy.
Season 2 of Orange is currently filming, and scheduled for digital release on Netflix next year.
