Television’s golden boy Ryan Murphy’s HBO project Open just keeps looking better and better. This summer it was announced that Fringe’s Anna Torv and Golden Globe nominee Jennifer Jason Leigh would star as lovers in the sexually charged series. Now, Michelle Monaghan (Eagle Eye, Mission Impossible III and Ghost Protocol) has been cast as the series’ central character Grace, an engaged gynecologist who falls for Torv’s character Windsor, according to Deadline.
Open is “a multi-character exploration of the complex, ever-evolving landscape of sexuality, monogamy and intimacy in relationships...” The Hollywood Reporter reported back in July.
Things get interesting on Open when Torv’s Windsor, a yoga instructor, meets Grace, who’s engaged to a sports agent played by Felicity’s Scott Speedman.
Meanwhile, Leigh plays Windsor’s partner Holly, an actress who is “intensely committed to her career,” THR reported. (Isn’t everything Leigh does intense?)
Out showrunner Murphy has had terrific success with Glee and American Horror Story, so the marriage of a Murphy show and HBO could prove to be promising.
HBO has ordered Open to pilot in April.
