WATCH: 'Lesbian Rosemary's Baby' Indie Film Lyle Now Streaming for Free
Billing a new indie horror comedy as "a lesbian Rosemary's Baby" is a good way to get us intrigued. Having it star Gaby Hoffman is also a pretty safe way to secure our interest. Putting it online for free means there is definitely a movie night in our immediate future. That's just what director Stewart Thorndike did with Lyle, which screened at this year's Outfest, in a campaign to draw attention to a Kickstarter raising money to finish a trilogy of female-driven horror films. It's a smart move, and one that's definitely gotten our attention.
In Lyle, Gaby Hoffman plays a lesbian whose firstborn dies during her second pregnancy, causing her to spiral into paranoid insanity. Gaby, who explained she normally has little interest in horror films, found something special in Lyle, which shot over 5 days in mostly one building."You’re sort of in that world 24/7,” Gaby said, “You’re living breathing, eating it. It’s exhausting, but I kind of enjoy working that way, because you sort of merge with this false reality that you are trying to create.” Now we can all enjoy the payoff of indie movie madness, and if you want more, you can donate to the trilogy's next film, the haunted TED Talk-inspired Putney.
