"Taking A Chance At Love"..

I just finished reading a novel by Kesha Pride entitled "Taking A Chance At Love" it was such a great read that when I finished it I immediately went to her website to purchase another one of her books but was surprised to find out that this was just her first book. I had to email her to let her know how much her book kept my attention all the way through and she got right back to me to let me know that she's working on her second book and to look out for it in a few months. Taking A Chance At Love is a fun read it's about these two female Doctors, Dr. Tori Becker and her trainee Dr. Kenya Jackson they are forced to ignore their attraction for each other due to the hospital's dating policy. But that's the least of their worries when past relationships, recent flings and several brushes with death surfaces in their lives and through it all they must decide how far are they willing to go for their chance at love.

what are you reading?

At the moment I am reading "The Parasol Protectorate".  It has vampires, werewolves, and a lesbian (she doesn't have a big part but she's there), and the story happens in a Steampunk world.  I just finished reading "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter".  I love Sci-Fi/Fantasy books but I will read just about anything. Have read works by Leo Tolstoy, Oscar Wilde, Anne McCaffrey, George R.R. Martin, Stephen King, Piers Anthony, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer .

Ready Player One

I just read Ernest Cline s Ready Player One about a future dystopia where life is so horrid every one lives inside a virtual reality video game.

Inside the game is an EasterEgg that if unlocked will give the finder ownership of the company worth trillions of dollars.

I liked that most of the clues were related to 80 s video games and movies. There is also a lesbian character who comes out in a surprising way. You may like it.

RE: What Are You Reading?

I read Affinity and Tipping the Velvet. Not sure which I liked better...both were pretty good. Just started "Dispatches" which is the writing of a Vietnam war correspondent. Very much unlike what I usually read but for some reason I wanted to read war stories. I'll probably get back to the Dark Tower books when I'm done with it. I'm in book 4 of DT.

RE: What Are You Reading?

That's good news if the 4th Larsson book is almost ready to publish - I didn't know that. I also love the early Sarah Waters books - I've read Tipping the Velvet [it starts off in Whitstable [with the oysters) which is near where I live), Fingersmith [my favourite - loved the tv adaptation too) and Affinity. I haven't read the later ones [the Little Stranger / The Night Watch) so need to add those to my reading list - has anyone read them? Random information but she sat opposite me on a Eurostar train once and I was surprised she wasn't in the first class section...

RE: What Are You Reading?

I saw the movies too. They're all good, although the plots had to be smoothed out a little. I hope our American versions are good too.

I read about the "I have the laptop and you can't have it" deal between Larsson's gf and his father and brother. Yikes. I read that a 4th book was almost done...I'd like to read it. :)

RE: What Are You Reading?

I've read the Stieg Larsson books too and enjoyed them all - particularly the second one [the film of which I saw yesterday). Apparently there were more books planned with the same characters and Larsson's girlfriend has the manuscripts - unfortunately there's supposed to be some unpleasantness going on where Stieg's father receives all the royalties and the girlfriend gets nothing so I don't know if the later books will ever get published - hopefully something will get sorted out as the books are so incredibly popular. I just want to know more about Lisbeth's twin sister and why they aren't in touch. At the moment, I'm reading The Girls recommended by Jill Bennett - it's about lesbianism amongst the acting community during the times of Greta Garbo - interesting so far.

RE: What Are You Reading?

I'm reading a book a read about 5 years ago. It's called Vince & Joy by Lisa Jewell. It's a nice romantic kind of story.

The author is English and the story is set in England. About a guy called Vince and a girl called Joy that met in a holiday caravan park when they were 17 & 18. The story follows them as they.. I won't give it away :P

I'm re-reading it not because it's my favourite book, but because the last time I read it I did so in 4 days, which is unlike me. [I'm a slow enough reader.)

I saw it on my shelf when I was looking for a new book to read and thought - I'll re-read you til I find a new book that interests me. I haven't bought any new books recently and I'm enjoying the book again. So, that's what I'm reading :D

Oh, almost forgot. I started reading Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. But for some reason I stopped. Have no idea why now..

RE: What Are You Reading?

I'll just go ahead and bump this thread if that's ok. I'm reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series, as the rec of a friend or two. I have a long-ish bus commute so I get a lot of reading time and have read 32 books this year, including all those Steig Larsson ones. I see at least one person on the bus with one of those almost every day. I can only tell what it is if they have the actual book, so probably more are reading them on a kindle or nook or whatever. That's a lot.

I don't know what I'll read next. Probably something easy to let my brain come out of Dark Tower land.

RE: What Are You Reading?

I'm about half way through 'The Book Thief' which is OK and then I've got 'The Celluloid Closet' all lined up [I've always wanted to read it)... After that I'm not sure. I had the new Tanya Huff book last Christmas so I may indulge myself! :o

RE: What Are You Reading?

Well I made the mistake of being an avid watcher and a member of some of the writing groups. So eveytime I open to that site, there is a ton of stuff to look at. Before I know it it's two in the morning.

RE: What Are You Reading?

Sounds like something I'd be interested in reading if you ever figure it out :)

The internet is indeed evil, despite all it provides. I'm trying to limit my time on it to when I'm at work, but I keep getting sucked back in.

Also, I'm familiar with deviantart. It stole a lot of my time a few years back.

RE: What Are You Reading?

I hear you. I re-read American Gods by Neil Gaiman last week. And now I try to listen to a couple of chapters a night. I just think it represents brilliant story telling much like the Sandman series.

I want to start on a novel and/or graphic novel with an african-american lesbian in which african myths are incorporated within the larger narrative. I just haven't figured out how to seamlessly put it together. And of course, serious righting means leaving the distraction of the internet.

I never had internet services before. I just use to go to my local coffee shop and use their internet. Now that I have access at home, I find myself lose 3-4 hours at a stretch.
You can really get sucked in.

Speaking of which, my latest and coolest timesuck
is deviantART.com. Sorry that I can't provide a link for it,
still learning to be in the 21st C. 18 months ago I was still ordering fountain pens and computerless.

RE: What Are You Reading?

Yeaah, that would be awful. At least he knew he was published, though. He finished his stories. He knew he was a success in a lot of ways. What were his previous books? I've never heard his name associated with anything apart from the trilogy. But then, maybe they were in Swedish and never translated? It's not like I've exactly made a point of reading up on him.

I haven't heard anything about the second one, and haven't gotten to it yet. I've got a few other things on my to-read pile on top of it.

RE: What Are You Reading?
Awesome :) A few small things bothered me about it, but overall I liked it. I just picked up the sequel, "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and added it to my to-read pile.
This was one of his first books, I believe; definitely the first in the trilogy. I have heard the second is a lot better than the first.

Tragic that the writer died right before this trilogy became an international phenom.:[

What Are You Reading?

I'm always looking for new suggestions, so what literature are you curling up with at night?

I'm currently reading "The Gargoyal" ...it's horribly offensive and beautifully written. So far I'm loving it.
