The journey is almost over – or just beginning - for the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team after an 81-50 victory over Ohio State Sunday in the Maggie Dixon Classic at Madison Square Garden. With that win, the UConn women tied the UCLA's men’s team for the most victories in a row at 88 games and counting. That’s a record that the UCLA men have held since 1994. And tonight, the UConn women are poised to break the tie by continuing their streak in a game against Florida State.
If the UConn Huskies can get past Florida State Tuesday on their home court the record will with be theirs.
UConn Coach Geno Auriemma said he thinks there are who are rooting against his players because they are women.
"I just know there wouldn't be this many people in the room if we were chasing a woman's record," the Connecticut coach said Sunday near the end of his post game news conference, according to ESPN. "The reason everybody is having a heart attack the last four or five days is a bunch of women are threatening to break a men's record, and everybody is all up in arms about it."
And to that end, we at SheWired say: Go Huskies!!!
