Just a few weeks after the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” the ban on gay and lesbians serving openly in the US military, Roz from the popular comic Doonesbury came out as a lesbian to her army sergeant Melissa Wheeler, her mother and other member of her unit all in the past few days.

Her journey began with Monday, October 3’s comic when Roz was telling her sergeant about her gay-ness, and was interrupted by a phone call from her mom:

On Tuesday, the conversation between Roz and her sergeant continued as Roz revealed that all the dates she had gone on were with gay guys, and how nice it was to hang out with someone else in the same position of having to stay in the closet:

This morning, Roz’s sergeant asks Roz if she will tell anyone else, and Roz asks why she wouldn’t tell anyone else. Roz then shouts to everyone seated nearby that she is gay, and no one thinks anything of it:

Congratulations to Roz! We are glad it was easy for her to come out!
