Seventeen-year-olds raised by lesbian parents since birth show no different quality of life than their peers raised by heterosexual parents, according to a new study published in the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.
The children of lesbian parents also show that there is no difference in the quality of life despite unique variables like donor status, experiences of discrimination, and whether their parents were separated, according to the Williams Institute.
The study looked at the lives of 78 17-year-olds with lesbian mothers. The participants were asked to answer whether they felt close to their parents, and about their own self-esteem. The teens generally answered the same as their peers who were raised by heterosexual parents.
