'Afternoon with Queer Female Artists' in Venice
The Very Venice Art Gallery will present a four-layered convergence on July 22, in its second “Afternoon with Queer Female Artists." The artists include Jacquelyn Kennedy, Bridget McManus, Adriana Torres, and Amy Turner. All four also participated in the first "Afternoon with Queer Female Artists.”
Jacquelyn Kennedy, owner and designer for Dewberries, has played an active role in LGBT corporate integration. She partnered with Walgreens in 2011 to produce LGBT merchandise in honor of Pride month. Her West Los Angeles-based company, Dewberries, opened in 2010.
Bridget McManus, though an emerging painter, is better known for her successful comedy work. She has been named the third funniest lesbian in the world by Curve Magazine, starred in her own television shows, McManusland, Bridget McManus Presents: That Time of the Month and Brunch with Bridget.
Adrianna Torres, McManus's producing partner, has worked on That Time of the Month and Brunch with Bridget. She also worked on the recent documentary, I Stand Corrected, about the rise of jazz bassist Jennifer Leitham, a trans-female.
Amy Turners's specialty is pet portraits. She has loved both dogs and artwork since she was a little girl, according to her website, and paints animals on commission. In her other life, she is half of the lesbian band That's What She Said.
The free event will take place from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm at 1629 Abbot Kinney Blvd. Venice, CA. Free street parking is available on Venice Blvd. and Abbot Kinney.
