Lesbian 'Thelma and Louise' Brought Down by a Lion?

A teenage lesbian couple in the Philadelphia area, who cops have nicknamed Thelma and Louise, just finished a two-month crime spree that ended, according to the New York Daily News, when the duo encountered a lion’s lair.

Britney Singleton and Harley Gifford, both 19, admitted to robbing nearly 30 homes, stealing about $22,000 in cash as well as thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, electronics, firearms, and clothing.

The two women aren’t drug addicts, say police: "They just enjoyed stealing," Upper Darby police superintendent Michael J. Chitwood told the Philadelphia Daily News. "They used people's homes as their own private shopping center."

The couple pulled off all the robberies in broad daylight, walking or using public transportation. In one case, they even lugged a a 55-inch flat screen TV back to their apartment on foot.

According to Chitwood, the couple said they encountered an unusual guard animal — a lion — that may have ended their crime spree.

"They were climbing in the window and they saw what they described as a lion," Chitwood said. Police are now looking for the lion.

"If we find a lion, it will be a bigger story than this," Chitwood said.

The two women were arrested Sept. 15 and are likely to be charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property and other related crimes.
