Two young women in a relationship together were shot in the head in a park in Portland, Texas (near Corpus Christie) over the weekend, according to the Corpus Christi Caller Times.

One of the young women, 19-year-old Mollie Judith Olgin (pictured right) died of her wounds while her girlfriend Mary Christine Chapa, 18, (pictured left), is in the hospital in serious condition but stable as of Sunday, according to the Caller Times.

While police can’t say for certain that the crime was motivated by the lesbian relationship Portland Chief Randy Wright, who is investigating the attacks, told NBC affiliate kristv.com, "This particular case, it does have some of the earmarks of a targeted attack. We'll know more about that as we go forward in the investigation."

Friends of Olgin and Chapa told kristv that the couple had been together for five months. Olgin’s roommate Samantha Garrett said that “the fun-loving couple hadn’t gotten any negative response to their relationship and could not think of why anyone would want to harm them,” according to kristv.

Olgin and Chapa were found in tall grass in the park leading to police to surmise that the girls had walked with the assailant or assailants but because of the grass police were unable to discern identifiable footprints, according to the Caller Times.
