The Trevor Project, which provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth, has named Meredith Kadlec Chair of the Board, making her the non-profit’s first-ever lesbian to hold the post, according to a release from The Trevor Project.

Kadlec, recently a Senior Vice President at Here Media, has served on the Trevor Project’s Board since 2007 and she’ll hold the post for two years.

"I am honored to serve The Trevor Project in this capacity, and to work in partnership with the Board, staff and volunteers to expand Trevor's life-saving, life-affirming services and programs online, in schools and via text messaging," Kadlec said in a release. "My goals are to ensure fiscal stability for the organization's future, create strategic partnerships to expand Trevor's reach, both within the LGBTQ community and beyond, and to create deeper awareness of The Trevor Project nationally so the youth who need us know we are there."

Regarding Kadlec's appointment as Chair of the Board Abbe Land, Executive Director and CEO of The Trevor Project said, "Meredith brings with her a wealth of leadership experience as a business executive and dedicated Board Member. As a mother, she also brings unique input from a parent's perspective on the needs of youth."

The Trevor Project was founded in 1998 by James Lecesne, Peggy Rajski and Randy Stone, the creators of the Academy Award winning short film Trevor, about a 13-year-old boy who’s bullied over his crush on the school’s most popular boy. The film’s creators sought to provide a helpline for kids who might identify with Trevor when the film aired on HBO in 1998. When no such helpline for LGBTQ teens existed, they created the Trevor Helpline.

Joining Kadlec on the Board of Directors are Brian Dorsey, Co-Vice Chair; Michael Norton, Co-Vice Chair; Jason Oclaray, Treasurer; Christian Dowell, Secretary; Peggy Rajski, Co-Founder; and Bonnie Graves, Member At Large. Ricky Strauss is Chair Emeritus, having served as Interim Chair since April 2011.
