Talented midfielder and 2012 Gold medalist Megan Rapinoe was the subject of a profile that ran on NBC Nightly News this week, and during a two minute long news report, Rapinoe discussed why she made the decision to come out earlier this summer, which she did in Out magazine.

“I don’t feel like there’s anything wrong with me, I feel like actually I’m pretty special,” she said during the interview.

Rapinoe wants to be someone who other gay athletes can admire and look up to. And based on her talents, and what an important role she plays on the US women’s soccer squad, we’re going to be looking up to her for a very long time.
